I am pleased to recognize September 15, 2010 as “Montana Library Day”.
Libraries provide resources for Montanans seeking information on topics including arts, history, language, science and literature and serve as crucial technology centers for people in need of free internet access, computer training, and assistance finding job resources.
I encourage you to celebrate “Montana Library Day” by visiting your library to take advantage of the books, media and technology libraries provide.

The BSB library will be gathering statistics on our library to share with the rest of Montana on September 15th, so come in and be counted!

Here is a link to the State Library where the stats will be available after the 15th count.

The Montana State Library, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, and the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library announced the launch of a new website designed to assist hunters find the basic information they need for a successful hunting season.  The “Hunting Companion” can be found at http://msl.mt.gov/hunting, or by visiting our “Online Resources” page.

The website was developed in part to assist Montana’s librarians as they field requests from hunters in libraries across the state.  The “Hunting Companion” is a streamlined access point for the basic information every hunter needs for a successful hunt.

The “Hunting Companion” is designed to provide answers to four questions that hunters ask, including:

• What can I hunt?
• When can I hunt?
• Where can I hunt?
• How do I hunt?

The “Hunting Companion” site has an easy-to-use interface and simplistic design and provides information from resources ranging from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the Montana Base Map Service Center, and the Montana State Library. It is the first website to go live as part of a large project by the Montana State Library that will condense all of Montana’s most important geographic and natural resources information and make it available in easy-to-access subject guides, such as hunting, fishing, mining, water resources, and farming and ranching.

Now you can access databases like HeritageQuest and EBSCOhost by clicking on tab above this post entitled “Online Resources.”

We’ve also created two new pages: “Community Links” gives you easy access to frequently-requested local websites, while “Job Search Assistance” will direct you to several local and national employment resources.

How do I use this service?

Log on to the library website and click on the catalog.

Use the search box on the right or click on search catalog.

Enter you library card number and password.

Find the library material you want to check out.

Click on the hold option and select Three Bears Alaska remote from the “pick up from” drop down, click on “place hold”.

Your library materials will be pulled and delivered to Three Bears Alaska.

You will receive an email/phone message notifying you that your requests are ready for pick up.

Bring your library card and photo ID to the customer service counter.

Ask for your materials and show your ID. Sign  the wrapper receipt and you are done!

When you are ready to return your library materials just drop them in the dropbox at Three Bears customer service!
